Filipino MD's Blog

On March 18, 2006, the Asian Health Outreach Foundation along with 3 other Filipino organizations in West Michigan, held a fundraiser for the survivors of the Leyte mudslide.

It was a very successful event, with way over 250 people attending (that's a large number considering there's not a lot of Filipinos in West Michigan). It was also the first event held in a collaborative effort by Filipino organizations.

We are now looking for a doctor who would be willing to start up a practice in Guinsaugon, Leyte. Millions of dollars have been supposedly poured into the area with several infrastructure projects already planned out. However, as in any disaster stricken area, continuity and availability of care is always crucial. We believe that supporting a doctor in the area would give the most benefit for the survivors.

The requirements are simple. Any licensed Filipino doctor willing to start a clinic in the area is qualified. The willingness to stay on after the project duration is a plus. Knowledge in community-based health program implementation and willingness to train volunteer health workers  are major considerations. The project will be administered by Asian Health Outreach Foundation's Doktor Ko project.

The grant may last 3 years.

Interested physicians may apply by sending a CV with a cover letter stating why they are interested to doktorko@asianhealthoutreach.org.
